At Malabar Farm where Louis Bromfield, the Pulitzer Prize-winning author, lived is off of Ohio 603. It has 914 acres of land with hiking and bridle trails, fishing, cross-country skiing, a youth yostel, and a petting farm. Special events that are held there are the Maple Sugar Festival and Ohio Hertiage Days. One nice feature of Malabar Farm is Mt. Jeez. You drive-up a long twisting road to the top of a hill where you can veiw the entire farm and more.
We have many scenic parks around the area. Charles Mill Lake Park is on Ohio 603 which has swimming, boating, fishing, picnicking and camping. The Charles Mill Dam is there too. It has swings, picnic tables, and a "wee" beach to sit on. :) Pleasant Hill Lake Park is one I visited a lot as a child. We use to go spend a day there swimming and picnicking. At PHLP they also have boating, ice skating and ice fishing. In Ashland city we have Brookside Park which has the city pool, play areas, ponds, town creek, tennis courts, basketball hoops, nature trails (Angel and Devil paths around the pond), and softball diamonds.
